Who We've Helped

For over 200 years, The Sunninghill Trust has provided help and support to individuals and groups in need.

We are in the very fortunate position of not needing to raise money for our grants as we generate income from land and other investments we own. By carefully managing these assets, we hope to continue helping our community for the next 200 years, and beyond.

Here are a few case studies of the people and projects we support.

Community support

Thames Hospice Care

Thames Hospice Care is a lifeline for patients and their families navigating end-of-life care. With kindness at the heart of everything they do, Thames Hospice ensures no one faces their journey alone, providing unwavering support, expert medical care, and a compassionate hand to hold.

Last year in Ascot, Sunninghill and Sunningdale areas, Thames Hospice Care looked after 322 patients, made 6,172 home visits, offered advice to 18,000 callers, and cared for 114 patients with acute medical needs through their Virtual Ward.

The Sunninghill Trust is pleased to support this very special charity, helping families receive the best possible care, free of charge.

Hospice Care
Child care

Zakk

Zakk is a dear little boy with a very engaging smile who was sadly born with serious medical conditions resulting in limited control of his limbs, breathing difficulties and poor eyesight. He is the youngest of 3 children and his family works hard to give all the children the care and attention they need whilst caring for Zakk at home.

The Sunninghill Trust was happy to provide a grant to fund a course of specialised physiotherapy to supplement his ongoing medical care and to assist in funding a new bedroom and bathroom.

Ascot Volunteer Bureau

Ascot Volunteer Bureau (AVB) is a small local charity covering the SL5 postcode area. It provides transport for clients who are 65 and over to their medical appointments. AVB is staffed completely by volunteers with drivers using their own cars to take the clients to their appointments. A small charge is made to cover the driver’s expenses.

The Sunninghill Trust has been AVB’s major benefactor for many years, allowing AVB to carry out this essential service. AVBs clients are always very appreciative of the service with many saying they don’t know how they’d manage without it.

Day Centre

Ascot District Day Centre

The Ascot District Day Centre is situated on the Bagshot Road at the end of Sunninghill High Street and was founded in 1978. It is a non-government funded charity that relies on grants and charitable donations.

The Centre has a staff of 6, and on weekdays it opens its doors to the over 60s. Weekday visitors enjoy morning coffee, a two-course lunch and afternoon tea as well as a variety of activities such as tai chi, carpet bowls and sing-alongs. On Saturdays, the centre offers a quieter day where qualified nursing care is available for those requiring extra medical attention, allowing the carers the opportunity to have a day to themselves.

Amongst the services on offer are hairdressing, chiropody, a prescription collection service, and a fully equipped bathroom with a hoist, for those requiring assisted bathing. For members who have difficulty attending, a meals on wheels service operates which is particularly vital in the cold winter months and the Centre’s own minibuses (which are equipped with tail lifts) are used to ferry members to and from their homes in the local area.

Once a week the Centre provides a venue for the CAB to provide an outreach service open to everyone in the community, regularly opening its doors to the thriving local Brownies and Guides Troops when they need extra space.

The Sunninghill Trust is proud to provide funding on a regular basis to ensure this valuable local resource can continue its work at the heart of the community.

Charter School

The Charter School aims to foster positive relationships across the whole community and is committed to ensuring that their students have outstanding learning opportunities across a broad curriculum. These experiences help develop the students’ curiosity so they can approach the future with confidence and optimism.

Since 2022, The Sunninghill Trust is delighted to provide financial support that enables these broad learning experiences for the students. Such experiences include a Biodiversity Project Day, Strategies for Success workshops specifically designed for those taking GCSEs, as well as a memorable week-long stay at Jamie’s Farm in Monmouth, Wales which offered a unique opportunity for the students to step away from the classroom and immerse themselves in the challenges and rewards of living and working on a functional farm.

Novello Theatre

Novello Theatre, Sunninghill

The Novello Theatre has long held a special place in the hearts of many local residents, and thanks to a new partnership, its future as a community arts hub is now secure. Following a successful campaign by the Save the Novello Picture House group, The Sunninghill Trust is proud to have purchased the Theatre, safeguarding it for public use.

Under the new structure, the Trust will retain ownership of the building, leasing it affordably to the Cordes Hall charity who will manage its operations. This innovative arrangement ensures the Theatre will continue to serve the local community for generations to come.

As part of the project’s first phase, the Trust will fully fund the essential refurbishment works required to bring the building up to modern standards. The Cordes Hall charity will then lead the fit-out phase, using the funds they have raised to install specialist audio-visual equipment and complete the internal setup of the space.

We are delighted to play a key role in returning this treasured local venue to the community. Once complete, the Novello Theatre will form part of a vibrant, multi-purpose performance and events centre alongside Cordes Hall, creating a new cultural hub right in the heart of Sunninghill.

Windsor Horse Rangers

Windsor Horse Rangers is a volunteer led children’s educational charity which gives young people aged 8 to 18 the hands-on skills to care for, handle, ride and connect with horses in a supportive, nurturing and fun environment. Every weekend, up to 180 children attend over four sessions and are taught by a team of 25 adult volunteers and staff. The Sunninghill Trust paid for the adults to have their 3-yearly first aid training which needed renewing in 2025. It was run by C&A Training and covered basic first aid with a focus on the accidents which are more likely to occur around horses. Windsor Horse Rangers are very grateful to the Sunninghill Trust for paying for this essential training and now feel well equipped to cope with any accidents which may occur.
